Strategies to Reduce Sodium Intake in the United States

Reducing the intake of sodium is an important public health goal for Americans. The U.S. population consumes far more sodium than is recommended, placing individuals at unnecessary risk for high blood pressure, and subsequently, a wide range of chronic diseases. Public health professionals estimate that population-wide reductions in sodium could prevent more than 100,000 deaths annually.  Join us for a discussion with leading experts in the field as they present the rationale for sodium reduction, map out the landscape of current strategies and activities to address the problem, and discuss the recommendations of the newly released report by the Institute of Medicine entitled “Strategies to Reduce Sodium Intake in the United States.”
